For those who are looking for the Suntour Command Shifters (aka Butterfly) or thinking to put them on eBay, just don't miss the chance to get your pair and never sell them away.
People think the Command is an innovation 20 years ago, just perfect for restoration project of your vintage road bike. Or maybe some competition cyclocross riders found them ideal shifter for its durability over modern brifters. It is not just for old bikes. This is not because the Command Shifter can be switched to the friction mode, which is actually just turn them what they used to call 'light index mode'.
The Command Shifters can be perfectly indexed and synchronized with the latest 9 and 10 speed or even 11 speed cassette cogs by simply replacing the index cam ring inside.
The cam rings to make the Command Shifters work with Shimano 9 speed and Campy 10 speed are available from an ex-Suntour engineer for years. I have obtained a bunch of pairs of Command Shifters in NOS condition, and am currently working on the ones for Shimano 10 speed and Campy 11. So please stay tuned to this blog for the replacement cam rings or the complete Command Shifters geared to the latest cogsets.
Since Suntour XC Pro thumb shifter, the greatest MTB shifters that still many people say 'the best shifters ever made', shares the internal design with the Command, the replacement parts fit XC Pro too. They are also not just old school stuff.
